I wrote my book; How I Stripe a Parking Lot after (14) years in business, because I knew I was not the only individual in the U.S. that needed a job / career / idea / a hand up. It’s now been (28) years. The greatest success I’ve ever had is starting others into their own Side Hustle Small Business.
6K or less to start. No real shop. No real inventory. Part time or full time. Almost any economy.
My 1st machine cost 4K. ( The Cost. ) I kept that machine in my (2) car garage. ( No Real “Shop”. ) Now I MFG stencils, but, I bought stencils as I needed them. ( Inventory. ) I bought paint on the way to my job, after I had been given the job. ( The “Other” Inventory. ) I was part time until my 3rd season. ( Part Time To Start. ) When the economy crashed in 2008, businesses stopped spending money, except to re-stripe. ( Almost Any Economy. )

About Me
My name is Dan Zurcher and I own The American Striping Company. I’ve been striping parking lots for (28) years and I’ve accomplished most of it alone. Parking lots with 50 cars and shopping centers with 1000 cars. I’ve striped schools, playgrounds, banks, parks, truck docks, small airports, restaurants, ring roads, drug stores, hospitals, strip malls, car dealerships, parking garages, helipads, coffee shops, office complexes, streets, intersections and 60,000′ indoors. So now?…I wrote this book.

I share how to stencil a parking lot, quickly, so that everything is lined up, pretty and straight, including “drive lane” directional arrows…even if they’re 243′ apart.

My Pricing and Profit
Beyond start up costs…you’ll need to know pricing and profit. In my book, I break down my time involved, pricing, paint costs and profit. I give prices per foot for stripes and curb. I also include pricing for parking lot stencils and why they’re sometimes expensive. I’ll also figure profits. An average $400.00 to $600.00 job would take me 2-4 hours and paint would cost $90.00. In my 3rd Summer, I broke 30K and quit my other job. I made 60K in my 4th Summer. It went up from there.
